What's the reason because the quality of centers from the previous decades hasn't translated to the 00's?

And how will the next generation of centers do?

How did the quality of the centers went from Hall Of Fame caliber players e.g Hakeem,Ewing,Robinson,O'Neal to scrubs...how?O'Neal continued to dominate and play well in the 00's,but he's a product from the 90's,the old school. The 00's besides him had,Yao Ming,Ben Wallace and Dwight Howard...the rest aren't good enough to be mentioned

Reason 1:

Injuries. Jermaine O'Neal suffered a major injury after being a perennial All-Star. Yao Ming has never been able to stay healthy. Andrew Bogut is constantly in and out of the Bucks' lineup. Andrew Bynum and Greg Oden have also had problems with their knees. In the 90s, and especially in the 80s, big men were tall, but they didn't need to have the bulk that a lot of centers now carry. Shaquille O'Neal changed all that. So now centers are bigger and wider, which puts more pressure on their knees, making it harder for them to stay healthy.

Reason 2:

The NBA doesn't let as much go. They call fouls tighter for every player, but especially big men. Even if a center goes straight up defensively, if there's a lot of contact, it will be called a foul on the defense (unless of course the center is a flopper, in which case he most likely would never have been a dominant center).
