For 17 straight seasons, Maryland men's basketball has been a program built on a us against the world mentality, where the program made some great college players like Joe Smith, Steve Francis, Juan Dixon, and yeah, even Greivis Vasquez. They made two Final Fours and even won a championship. They built a new arena in 2002, the Comcast Center to further the reputation of Terrapin basketball and solidify it as a perennial Top 10 program, like UConn did. Instead, the new building did nothing for the men's hoops program at least, and the team gradually declined to where it is now.
After this season where the Terps went 19-14 (7-9) in the ACC, they not only missed the NCAA tournament which is the 4th time in the last 7 years, but they also missed the NIT, which they managed to do in every year they missed the NCAA tournament. The Terps could get
This is a very sad day for most Terps fans, because Maryland is now a program that's just a meddling ACC team.
The only person at Maryland who's laughing, if at all, is Brenda Frese, the head women's basketball coach, and she's ready to lead the #16 Terps to another NCAA berth this year with a very young core so while they may lose early in the Dance, they're a team that's positioned for another championship run real soon.
Why are the Maryland women consistently recruiting well every year and are positioning themselves for long term success since Comcast Center opened in 2002, while Gary Williams just regressed? Jesus! Half my family is just cursing at the TV right now though they're excited for tomorrow when the Lady Terps learn where they're seeded.
FIRE GARY!! NOW!!!!!!
